Architecture

Here's the basic architecture of my recording system in a visual format.

The recording server is installed in a commercial housing service's server room in downtown Tokyo. In our home in California, we have a home central server servicing more than a dozen clients including 7 Windows machines, 2 iPhones, VOIP, the network media player (NMP), and more. The two servers are connected through a secure connection over the Internet.

A registered client machine shown as a laptop in the picture can securely connect to both servers from anywhere on the Internet to schedule recordings and to manage recorded files through web interfaces.

The recording server records scheduled TV programs and transfers them to the home central server automatically. My family members watch the recorded and transferred TV programs on a big-screen TV using a regular IR remote.
